Guests for this week’s show, July 17th.

We will visit the "hub" of the southwest's "Grand Circle" and the sunny town of Page, Arizona.  Vin Paitoon, Tourism Coordinator for the City of Page, AZ will join me and talk about the town's many outdoor recreational opportunities.  First, we will stop by the city's "John Wesley Powell Museum & Visitor Information Center".  The center is located just off of the main drag in Page and offers visitors great information and history on Page via fun and interactive displays.  Vin will then talk about the color swirled, smooth rock formations at "Antelope Canyon Navajo Tribal Park".  The park is divided into two sections:  The upper section, which is accessible by climbing down a ladder (for the adventurous, of course) and the lower section which involves an easy walk (for the nonadventurous).  Navajo guides conduct all tours available in the park.  In addition, 4-wheeler and photography tours are also available.  Vin will also take us to "Glen Canyon National Recreation Area".  Located on the Utah and Arizona borders, this area offers abundant boating, fishing and hiking opportunities.  Awesome Lake Powell, the largest man made lake on the continent is this area's centerpiece.  The lake has almost 2,000 miles of endless shoreline.  Summer activities include jet skiing, water skiing, beach parties and houseboating.  In fact, spending the night in one of the "mansions on the water" is a great way to enjoy the area.   Wahweap Marina, located on Lake Powell offers daily sightseeing, sunrise/sunset, nighttime stargazing and fishing tours.  In fact, one of the most popular sites within the recreation area is the "Rainbow Bridge National Monument".  This is the world's largest arched rock span and is accessible by either a multi-day hiking trip or an all day boat ride.  Page, which is conveniently located 137 miles north of Flagstaff, AZ is not only the anchor for a great lake vacation, but it is also home to some fabulous special events!  A current event includes a Friday Night Art Walk which gives the local business, retail and craft community an opportunity to "show off" their handiwork.  Plus, upcoming events include a challenging Triathlon, The Navajo Nation Fair, The "Desert Rock's" 3-Day Music Festival and also a Hot Air Balloon Regatta.  Many lodging and eating options are available in downtown Page;  from various chain hotels to delicious restaurants serving fresh Italian cuisine and sushi.  Page offers something for every travel budget.  For an outdoor and water recreation enthusiasts summer vacation getaway like no other; plan your next trip to the lakeside resort town of Page, AZ!  Go to www.explorepageaz.com for more information!

Plus, "Is airline food safe to eat?"  We will tell you in this week's "Travel News".  Also, consider packing a duffel bag or backpack the next time you fly!  We will tell you why in this week's "One For The Road" segment.

Finally, we will travel to "family friendly" Cedar City, Utah.  Cedar City has recently been named the "Best Getaway" in the state!   Bonnie Char, Public Relations Specialist for The Cedar City/Brianhead, Utah Tourism Board will join us and talk about this town which is also known as "Festival City USA"!  Bonnie will begin by talking about the "Tony Award Winning" "Utah Shakespearean Festival" which is held here on the campus of Southern Utah University. The festival runs from late June through October.  Some of William Shakespeare's best plays such as "Much Ado About Nothing" and popular Broadway favorites including the hilarious "Greater Tuna" take center stage here this year.  In addition to cultural offerings, Cedar City was recently named "One of the TOP 20 cities for Outdoorsmen".   As a result, Bonnie will take us "uphill" to the "colorful" "Cedar Breaks National Monument".  Located at a "chilly" 10, 350 feet above sea level; Cedar Breaks offers visitors spectacular, multi-colored limestone shapes accessible by hiking trails and a scenic drive with several viewpoints.  Cedar Breaks is also a great place for mountain wildflower viewing through the summer months as well. Many special events round up  Cedar City's annual calendar.  From a famous Mountain Biking trek at nearby Brianhead Ski Area to marathons, relays, hot air balloon rallies and a popular sheep and livestock festival;   Cedar City has something for everyone!  Located just east of town via a meandering and designated State Scenic Byway is the incomparable Bryce Canyon National Park.  Dazzling yellow, red and flaming orange pinnacles or "hoodoos", all ignited by the light of the sun make a trip to Bryce Canyon an experience to remember.  Bryce Canyon National Park is open and accessible year round and has a park entrance fee of $25 per vehicle.  From the scenic Park Road which travels 20 miles into the park to hiking trails for all skill levels; Bryce offers an awe inspiring outdoor adventure!   Taking a horse or mule ride and spending a night in the rustic Bryce Canyon Lodge is a great experience as well.  Just remember to make reservations to spend the night @ Bryce Canyon Lodge well in advance.  Back in Cedar City, Bed & Breakfast accommodations seem to be the most popular places to stay.  For a summer vacation that is "long on culture and outdoor advenure"; make Cedar City, Utah your next "natural" stopping place along I-15!  Go to www.scenicsouthernutah.com and plan your next spectacular summer adventure to Cedar City, UT today!
